Industrial Concrete Rehabilitation Services
RSC Group provides industrial concrete repair and rehabilitation for mining operations, processing plants and other facilities where concrete has deteriorated under demanding operating conditions.
From concrete spalling repair to structural crack injection, each scope is developed around the cause and extent of the damage. The operating environment and condition of the underlying reinforcement also inform the repair method.
Addressing deterioration beneath the surface
When cracking or spalling appears, the visible defect may represent only part of the deterioration. Moisture and aggressive chemicals can penetrate the concrete, leading to corrosion of the embedded steel. As reinforcement corrodes and expands, pressure builds within the surrounding concrete and causes further cracking or delamination.
Before repairs begin, the affected area is assessed to establish how far the deterioration extends. Unsound concrete must be removed and the underlying steel examined before the repair system is selected.
By treating the damaged substrate and its contributing causes, concrete rehabilitation can restore the affected section and help protect it from continued exposure.
Our industrial concrete repair capabilities
Across operating plants and planned maintenance projects, RSC undertakes localised repairs as well as wider structural concrete remediation.
Capabilities include:
- Concrete spalling repair
- Reinforced concrete repair
- Structural crack injection
- Repair of corrosion-damaged concrete
- Concrete resurfacing
- Removal of unsound concrete
- Reinforcement cleaning and treatment
- Replacement of damaged concrete sections
- Repairs to floors and plinths
- Rehabilitation of bunds and channels
- Protective coating application
- Joint and interface repairs
The final scope depends on the condition of the concrete and the function of the affected structure.
Concrete spalling & reinforcement repair
Where concrete has cracked or broken away, the damaged material is removed until a sound substrate is reached. Exposed reinforcement is then cleaned so that its condition can be assessed.
Steel affected by corrosion may require treatment or replacement before reinstatement proceeds. A compatible repair material is applied to rebuild the section and restore the required profile.
Careful preparation around the edges of the repair helps the new material bond with the existing concrete. The completed area is finished to suit the surrounding surface and allowed to cure in line with the repair specification.
Structural crack injection
The appropriate treatment for a crack depends on its dimensions and location. Any movement must also be considered when determining whether the crack is allowing moisture ingress or indicating structural distress.
Where injection is specified, the crack is prepared and filled with a compatible resin or cementitious material. The selected system and injection procedure are determined by the condition of the structure and the purpose of the repair.
Concrete resurfacing and protection
Where deterioration affects a broader surface, concrete resurfacing may be used to reinstate the damaged area. Floors and containment structures can also require rehabilitation after abrasion or chemical exposure.
Following repair, a protective coating or chemical-resistant lining may be applied where the operating environment demands additional protection. The system is selected around the exposure conditions and intended use of the surface.
