Conveyor Belt Splicing Services

RSC Group provides conveyor belt splicing and repair services for mining operations, processing plants and industrial facilities.

From planned belt installations to breakdown repairs, each scope is developed around the belt construction and conveyor configuration. Operating conditions and the available maintenance window also inform the selected jointing method.

Maintaining continuity
across the conveyor system

As a conveyor belt travels through the system, the splice must withstand repeated flexing and the tension created during operation. The joint is also exposed to the material being conveyed and the conditions surrounding the conveyor.

Poor alignment or an unsuitable splice can lead to tracking problems and accelerated wear. Separation at the joint may eventually interrupt production or damage other conveyor components.

Through accurate preparation and controlled jointing, conveyor belt splicing creates the continuous connection required between belt ends.

Our conveyor belt jointing capabilities

Across new installations and maintenance projects, RSC undertakes conveyor belt jointing for a range of industrial applications.

Capabilities include:

  • Hot belt splicing
  • Cold belt splicing
  • Belt vulcanising
  • Mechanical belt splices
  • Conveyor belt repair
  • Belt section replacement
  • Splice replacement
  • Breakdown repair support
  • New belt installation
  • Splice inspection
  • Shutdown splicing support

The method is selected according to the belt construction and its operating duty. Manufacturer requirements and site conditions are incorporated into the work plan.

Hot belt splicing & vulcanising

Where a vulcanised joint is specified, hot belt splicing uses heat and pressure to bond the prepared belt ends.

The belt plies are stepped according to the approved splice design before the bonding materials are installed. A vulcanising press applies the required temperature and pressure across the joint for the specified curing period.

Throughout the process, the belt ends must remain aligned and the bonding surfaces protected from contamination. Once curing is complete, the joint is allowed to cool before the press is removed and the splice inspected.

Cold belt splicing

Where the belt and operating requirements permit, cold belt splicing uses a chemical bonding system instead of a heated vulcanising process.

The belt ends are measured and prepared according to the required splice geometry. After the bonding surfaces have been cleaned, the adhesive system is applied in line with the product specification.

Environmental conditions and curing time must be controlled before the belt returns to service.

Mechanical belt splices & conveyor belt repair

When rapid reinstatement is required, mechanical belt splices may be used to connect the belt ends with an approved fastening system. The splice must suit the belt thickness and conveyor duty.

Mechanical jointing may provide a temporary breakdown repair or form part of the permanent belt design. Where a temporary splice is installed, the operating limitations and follow-up work should be recorded.

RSC also repairs damaged belt sections where the condition of the surrounding material allows. Depending on the extent of the damage, the work may involve a localised repair or replacement of the affected section.

Inspection before return to service

Before the conveyor is restarted, the completed splice is checked for alignment and joint profile. Edge condition, bonding quality or fastener installation is also inspected according to the method used.

A controlled test run allows the belt to be observed as it moves through the conveyor. Any tracking concerns or contact with surrounding components are addressed before normal operation resumes.

Plan your conveyor belt splicing work

Need conveyor belt splicing to install a new belt, replace a damaged section or repair a failed joint during a maintenance window? RSC Group can coordinate the splicing method and belt preparation around the conveyor configuration and site programme.
