Corrosion Protection
Services

RSC Group provides corrosion protection services for industrial assets exposed to moisture, chemicals, changing temperatures and other corrosive conditions.

Drawing on corrosion protection experience dating back to 1987, RSC supports asset owners during new construction, planned maintenance and rehabilitation projects. Services include corrosion surveys, condition assessments, surface treatment, protective coatings and maintenance planning.

Understanding the condition of the asset

Corrosion may affect structural steelwork, tanks, pipelines, process equipment and other metallic assets. Its development is influenced by the material, operating environment, asset design and condition of any existing protective system.

A corrosion survey can help establish the location and extent of visible deterioration. RSC assesses accessible surfaces and records areas of coating breakdown, rusting or localised damage that may require attention.

The findings provide a basis for defining remedial work and prioritising maintenance activities. They can also help the project team determine where existing coatings need to be removed so that the underlying substrate can be examined.

Our industrial
corrosion protection capabilities

RSC’s corrosion control services can support individual assets or wider maintenance programmes.

The work required will depend on the condition of the asset and the requirements of the project specification. A localised repair may be appropriate for an isolated area, while extensive deterioration may require removal and replacement of the existing protective system.

Where access, surface preparation or reinstatement forms part of the scope, RSC can coordinate the relevant services through one project team.

Capabilities include:

  • Corrosion surveys and condition assessments
  • Corrosion Under Insulation assessments
  • Surface preparation
  • Protective coating application
  • Repairs to deteriorated coating systems
  • Corrosion maintenance planning
  • Coating inspections and quality control
  • Insulation and cladding removal and reinstatement

Corrosion
Under Insulation

Corrosion Under Insulation can develop when water enters an insulation system and reaches the metal beneath it. The surrounding insulation and cladding may conceal the affected surface, limiting external signs of deterioration.

RSC supports Corrosion Under Insulation projects by coordinating access and the controlled removal of cladding and insulation from identified areas. The exposed substrate can then be assessed to establish its condition and determine the treatment required.

Depending on the project scope, affected surfaces may be prepared and protected before the insulation and cladding are reinstated. Attention is also given to damaged cladding, joints or penetrations that may have allowed moisture into the system.

Planning
corrosion maintenance

Corrosion surveys and maintenance plans allow asset owners to organise work around the condition of their infrastructure and the operational requirements of the site.

RSC can use survey findings to identify affected areas, record the observed condition and help define the services required. This information can support the planning of repairs during scheduled maintenance periods or shutdowns.

For larger facilities, work may be divided into manageable phases according to asset condition, access requirements and available maintenance windows. This allows priority areas to be addressed within the site programme.

Treatment and project controls

Once the required work has been defined, RSC plans the access, preparation and corrosion protection activities around the asset and project specification.

Surface preparation removes corrosion products, failed coatings and contaminants from the areas being treated. The prepared substrate is checked before the specified industrial protective coatings are applied.

Inspection requirements are determined by the project scope. Records may cover the areas treated, preparation completed and condition of the finished protective system.
